Smeg UK reports stronger direct sales: why the appliance seller needs its own record

By Taz

Smeg UK’s 2025 results were reported on 17 July, including a 9.3% increase in revenue to £73.7 million and an increase of almost 13% in direct-to-consumer sales. The company’s full accounts for the year to 31 December 2025 were filed at Companies House on 24 June.

This is one company’s result, not evidence that every UK appliance purchase is moving towards manufacturer websites. It does illustrate why the appliance brand and the business that sold a particular model should remain separate entries in a kitchen project record.

At a glance

What changed

Smeg UK reported growth in its direct-to-consumer sales alongside higher overall revenue and profit.

Why it matters

The same appliance brand can be bought from the manufacturer, a kitchen retailer, an appliance specialist or another online seller, with different order and service routes.

Worth revisiting

Record the exact model, seller, order reference, delivery arrangements, installation scope, returns information, serial number and warranty route.

What happened

kbbreview reported that Smeg UK’s revenue rose by 9.3% to £73.7 million during 2025, while profit increased by 20% to £1.536 million. The company also reported that its direct-to-consumer sales increased by almost 13%, attributing that movement to investment in its website and broader marketing activity.

Companies House records show that Smeg UK filed full accounts for the year ending 31 December 2025 on 24 June 2026.

Smeg’s online terms state that purchases made through its own UK shop form a contract with Smeg UK. That applies to that direct purchasing route. An appliance bought from a kitchen retailer or another appliance seller should instead be tied to the seller named on that order’s documents.

Why it matters for UK kitchen projects

Built-in appliances may be selected during the kitchen design but purchased through a separate channel later. A showroom quotation might contain the model description, while the final order is placed directly with the manufacturer or through an appliance retailer offering a different price or delivery date.

Changing the purchasing channel does not necessarily change the chosen appliance. It can change the legal seller, payment record, delivery service, installation arrangements, returns route and first contact for a fault.

Brand recognition alone does not preserve those distinctions. A homeowner may remember buying a Smeg oven, for example, while the practical question is whether that particular oven was supplied by Smeg UK, the kitchen retailer or another seller.

The exact model also remains important. Appliances within the same named range can differ in dimensions, electrical requirements, door configuration, controls, accessories or ventilation instructions. A showroom description or product image is not a substitute for the final model reference.

What homeowners may need to revisit

Create a separate record for each major appliance. Include the full model number and variant rather than only the brand and appliance type.

Record the seller’s name, order number, price, payment date and delivery contact. Keep the order confirmation issued by the business that took the payment, even where the appliance was originally chosen through a kitchen designer.

Confirm what the delivery service includes. Delivery to the property, delivery into the kitchen, removal of packaging, removal of an old appliance and installation are separate services and should not be assumed from the product price.

Where installation is included, record which business or installer is carrying it out and what connections or preparation must already be in place. Confirm responsibility for electrical, gas, plumbing, ventilation and cabinetry work with the relevant competent professionals.

After delivery, add the serial number and keep photographs of the model and rating labels where accessible. Save any warranty registration separately from the purchase confirmation, because the manufacturer’s warranty route and the seller’s responsibilities are not the same record.

When changing seller to obtain a different price or lead time, recheck the exact model, dimensions, door-hinging system, available accessories and installation requirements. Do not rely on two similar product descriptions being interchangeable.
