What happened
FM Mattsson announced the transaction on 28 July 2026. The initial cash consideration is approximately £49 million, with an earn-out based on Bristan’s revenue during the remainder of 2026 capped at £6 million. Completion was expected on the day of the announcement, subject to the customary conditions described by the company.
Bristan recorded approximately £63 million in revenue during the 12 months to June 2026 and employs around 280 people. Its products are sold through installers, specifiers, merchants, DIY retailers and online channels, with kitchen mixers forming part of its wider taps and showers business.
FM Mattsson already operates in the UK and Ireland through Aqualla. It says the two businesses have complementary strengths: Bristan has a particularly strong position among professional customers, while Aqualla has a greater focus on bathroom retailers and consumer-led products.
Bristan is expected to retain its management team and continue operating under its established brand. The announcement does not set out plans to combine ranges, customer-service systems or warranties.
Why it matters for UK kitchen projects
Brassware is a relatively concentrated product category. Scale can support product development, compliance work, purchasing, stockholding and access to different sales channels. The acquisition gives FM Mattsson an established UK name rather than requiring it to build equivalent recognition from scratch.
Bristan, in turn, becomes part of a specialist international group focused on taps and water-related products rather than a much broader home-products corporation. FM Mattsson has said the deal is intended to strengthen its presence in one of Europe’s largest markets for kitchen and bathroom mixers.
Those anticipated benefits remain company expectations. An acquisition does not by itself establish that ranges will improve, prices will change or service will become more efficient.
What homeowners may need to revisit
There is no indication that customers need to replace or reconsider a Bristan product simply because ownership has changed.
Existing guarantees and aftersales requests should continue to be handled according to the documents and terms issued with the product unless Bristan communicates otherwise. The continued use of the Bristan name does not necessarily mean that every internal process will remain unchanged indefinitely.
For new purchases, keep the exact model, finish, compatibility notes, guarantee terms, spare-part availability and seller on the project record. Wider group ownership is useful context, but it is not a substitute for the terms applying to the individual tap or mixer.
Watch for any later communication about shared product lines, distribution or support between Bristan and Aqualla, and update the project record only when a change is confirmed in writing.
